The Library provides a relaxed environment to peruse our collections which are available in both print and electronic formats. The collections offer access to world literature and Northern Territory documentary heritage, as well as international publications and newspapers, and online full-text databases and the internet.
Throughout the year the NTL provides a wide range of exciting and informative displays and events highlighting the collections and heritage of the Northern Territory. These events provide a unique insight into the premier collection of Northern Territory literature in the world.
The NTL is developing Libraries and Knowledge Centres with access to knowledge and information through core library services, including English literacy, information literacy programs and recreational activities. The centres enable the acquisition and preservation of local knowledge in communities and provide training and support to community members engaged in acquiring and preserving knowledge.
Library services provided to libraries across the Northern Territory include the ordering, buying, cataloguing and end processing of library materials selected by library staff in public libraries throughout the Territory. A collection of large print, spoken word and foreign language material is circulated amongst public and community libraries.
The Virtua Integrated Library Management System is managed for over 50 libraries, which are part of LINNet (Libraries in the Northern Territory Network). The Virtua system controls customer and vendor accounts, stock rotation and also delivers the Online Public Access Catalogue. The Virtua database is an extremely valuable resource, providing our clients with access to over a million items, located in the Northern Territory. It also supports the delivery of online resources which can be used within a library or remotely by becoming a member of a library.
