NT Community Libraries

Libraries and Knowledge Centres (LKC) are focal points for communities built on the services that the Northern Territory Library (NTL) already provides. They are both real places where members of communities can go for social interaction and to gain or share knowledge, and also virtual creations that can be accessed through information and communications technology.

The creation of Libraries and Knowledge Centres supports the Northern Territory Government's vision for strong, sustainable communities. The goal is to contribute to the development of sustainable communities through the provision of appropriate library, knowledge and information services.

Libraries and Knowledge Centres will:

  • Provide access to knowledge and information through core library services, including English literacy and information literacy programs
  • Enable the acquisition and preservation of local knowledge
  • Provide training and support to community members engaged in acquiring and preserving knowledge
  • Provide access to recreational activities for all groups within the community.
