Your TutorEvery student in the NT has a tutor! The Northern Territory Library offers the YourTutor Service free. YourTutor is an expert, tutoring service for students in years 4-12, as well as adult learners, subscribed to on your behalf by the library.

  • Available in this library Monday to Friday 3.00 to 6 pm (CST)
  • Available through your public library membership from 3.00 to 8.00 pm (CST)
  • Select a subject and connect to an expert tutor for one-to-one learning in the online classroom
  • Features chat, whiteboard, file sharing and web browsing.

Resources

The Northern Territory Library has many resources, particularly those related to the Northern Territory, to assist students with their studies. Reference materials, for example, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, almanacs, newspapers and journals, as well as full-text online databases, may be used in the Library.  To find out what is held in the Library, the library catalogue can be accessed from home or your educational institution. Study carrels are provided for quiet study.

Web Tutorials

Learn how to use the internet with the BBC Web Wise Online Course. Younger students may like the Quality Information Checklist for determining whether a website can be trusted. For adults and older students the Vaughan Memorial Library Tutorials - Credible Sources Count is a reminder to carefully evaluate online resources. The same site also has tips on web searching Searching with success! and avoiding plagiarism You quote it, you note it!. Finally, general research advice for students is available from the Senior Secondary Assessment Board South Australia.

Libraries Australia logoThe National Library of Australia hosts an interactive service called Libraries Australia, a modern internet-based service for Australians. It provides access to the national database of material held in Australian libraries. Search for an item 24 hours a day 7 days a week and locate which library in Australia holds the item.

Services

Library staff are available to provide assistance with research and project topics. If you have a topic you want to research you can contact us using the Online Reference Inquiry Service or Ask a Librarian.

Photocopying and printing are available for a small charge and word processing facilities are provided free of charge.
