Using Quick Search

Finding a known book or journal

How to find the book The future eaters by Timothy Flannery

  1. Type “future eaters” in the Quick Search field
  2. Use drop down menu to change to Books. Click on Search or hit the Enter key.

Tip: using inverted commas where there is more than one word helps to find items faster.

In the results screen, Location indicates which collection it is in and the Call no. indicates where you can find the book on the shelf.

How to find the Journal New Scientist
  1. Use the drop down menu to change to Magazines.
  2. Click on Search or hit the Enter key.
  3. Go to the second record. Click on the green icon to see what issues the library holds.
  4. The latest issue will be on display in the journals display section of the library. Back issues are held in a staff area.
  5. Ask a staff member if you wish to look at back issues.
Advanced Search – you are searching NT Library’s collections only

Searching here gives you more options such as a Combined Title and Author search.

To find a book with the title Conversations with the Constitution and written by the author Craven

  1. Type “conversations with the constitution” in the first field and use the drop down menu to change to Title.
  2. Type craven in the second field and use the drop down menu to change to Author.

You may also search by Subject. For example to find what resources the library has on the subject Art history
  1. Type the words “art history” in the first field and use the drop down menu to change to Subject.
  2. Click on Search or hit the Enter key. A list of results will display.

You also have options to search by ISBN or ISSN by using the drop down menu.

Browse Search – you are searching all the libraries in LINNet (part of the network the Northern Territory Library belongs to)

To search for the title Principles of art history type these words into the Browse field. Click on Search or hit the Enter key.

Note that Title is the default in the drop down menu. (You may also search in any of the other fields in the drop down window.)

This title comes up as the second one in the results window. To find out if the NT Library has a copy click on this title. You will note that the second item on the results screen indicates that there is a copy at the NT Library.
